Honestly, you might not need the 5080 for 1440p gaming, but I'd rather have a bit more power than not enough. I've got a 7800X3D paired with a 5080, and it's great for 1440p. Overall, your build looks solid to me!
You don't really need a Gen 5 SSD or a cooler for it. If you switch to a Gen 4 SSD, that could help save some money, and the combo of the 9800X3D with the 5080 is ridiculously powerful! Also, going for a Gen 4 SSD and upgrading your monitor to an OLED could be worth it if you're looking to save cash.
If it were me, I'd swap the CPU for a 7800X3D and consider sticking with a PCIe 4 NVMe SSD instead of going for a PCIe 5. Most users would notice negligible differences with SATA SSDs for storage, so that's where you could save some cash! 👍
Completely agree! Both CPUs are overkill for 1440p. I upgraded from a 10600K, and the performance jump was hardly noticeable. Just keep in mind that for most modern games, the CPU isn't the main bottleneck.
I'm in the same boat with SSDs. I've been eyeing the Crucial P510 (Gen 5) for $272, but the Samsung 990 Pro (Gen 4) is around $343. Given the performance difference, do you think the P510 cooler is overkill?
