How Can I Upgrade My Internet Setup for Competitive Gaming?

I'm looking to enhance my internet infrastructure focused on competitive gaming like CS2, Valorant, Deadlock, Overwatch, Apex Legends, and Fortnite. My goal is to improve stability, speed, and overall quality. I have a budget of $400 and currently have a 300 Mbps plan. I want recommendations on what kind of Ethernet cables, routers, switches, insulation, and Ethernet cards to buy. I live alone and primarily use my PC, phone, and TV. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

For Ethernet cables, you can go with any decent quality cable; I recommend at least Cat 6 to support higher speeds. Make sure to have a good quality router as well; look for one that supports your internet speed and has good reviews on lag for gaming. A switch might not be necessary unless you have multiple wired devices. Focus on getting a router with QoS (Quality of Service) settings to prioritize gaming traffic. Lastly, if you’re playing at a significant distance from the modem, consider a powerline adapter for better connectivity, especially since you mentioned your PC is around 40 meters away from the modem.

Definitely consider where your PC is located in relation to the modem. If it's 40 meters away, a high-quality Ethernet cable is essential. You'll want something like a Cat 6 or Cat 7 cable for optimal performance. If you're in a larger space or want to ensure good coverage, think about getting a mesh router system that can handle multiple devices without dropping speed.
