I'm a total newbie with my first gaming build and could use some guidance on BIOS settings. Here's what I have:
- AMD Ryzen 9 9600x CPU
- Thermalright Phantom Spirit cooler
- B650 Steel Legend WiFi motherboard
- 32 GB G.Skill 6000 MHz RAM
- NVIDIA 5070 GPU
- NZXT H5 case from 2023 with 3 intake and 3 exhaust fans
1) What are the best BIOS settings to optimize performance for my rig? I've set my RAM to run at 6000 MHz (up from 4800) and enabled EXPO. Should I also enable PBO? If yes, what settings should I use?
2) My CPU idle temperatures are ranging from 42 to 47°C. Is that on the higher side? It never exceeds 53°C in Cinebench 2024, though.
3) I'm just starting out, so please don't hesitate to share specific details or tips!

When it comes to underclocking, it's really about testing what your chip can handle. Start by setting it to -10 and see how stable it is, then maybe try -20, but there's a chance your CPU won't underclock well at all.
As for your temperatures, those idle readings are slightly on the higher side but nothing to stress over. If you're running Cinebench, a temperature of 53°C sounds reasonable; it's not too high. You might want to try a different stress test, like Prime95, to see how it performs under load.
Your Cinebench temp at 53°C seems pretty tame for heavy workloads—unless you just ran the GPU test, which might not stress the CPU as much. Keep an eye on temps, though; they usually indicate how well your cooling system is doing. Also, welcome to the PC building community! Don't hesitate to ask any more questions.
