Help! My 6-Year-Old PC Powers Up and Then Shuts Down

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with an issue on my older PC that's been giving me trouble lately, and I'm looking for some budget-friendly solutions to fix it. Here's my setup:

- **Motherboard**: MSI Carbon B450 Gaming Pro
- **CPU**: Ryzen 7 3700X
- **RAM**: 32GB DDR4 (2x16)
- **GPU**: Nvidia 1070Ti
- **Storage**: 1TB SSD

**The problem**: When I turn on the power supply, the PC briefly powers up but then shuts down almost immediately. After that, it keeps trying to turn on repeatedly every minute or so if I leave the power supply on.

I've tried a few things already:
- Replaced the power supply with a different one.
- Re-seated all components.
- Reset the CMOS and changed the battery.

**Additional notes**: There are no beep codes and the motherboard's error lights fail as soon as the "CPU" light comes on. Sometimes, that CPU light stays on, but the startup still fails. When I unplug the CPU jack, the power supply stays on.

I've checked for visible damage on the motherboard and CPU but found none. It seems like the issue could be the motherboard or CPU, but I'm not sure. Are there any diagnostics I've missed? If I need to replace either of them, what would be compatible replacements?

From what you've described, if the CPU were failing, I think the motherboard would have thrown a code by now. I'm leaning towards the motherboard being the culprit. Make sure to see if all your motherboard lights are coming on before it shuts down. If only the CPU light comes on, that's a sign your motherboard could be failing.

Hey, have you considered disconnecting the power and reset buttons from the motherboard? You could try turning it on by shorting the power pins with a piece of metal. I once had a faulty power button that caused similar issues, so it might be worth checking! Also, the fact that your PSU stays on without the CPU jack isn't alarming; it often needs the motherboard’s 24-pin connected to function properly.
