I have an SSD from my broken XPS 9550 laptop and I'm trying to recover the data by connecting it to my Inspiron 16 Plus 7620. Unfortunately, when I boot it up, I just end up in a troubleshooting menu. The SSD is running Windows 10 and although I've checked the directories in command prompt, I can only access the Public folder in the User directory, while the rest remains locked. I attempted a startup repair but that didn't work. Any ideas on how to proceed and recover my files?

It's a good idea to try booting from a rescue USB drive. Tools like Rescuezilla can help you back up your data to another drive or give you access to it. It'll make the recovery process smoother!
Just a heads up, swapping an SSD between different laptops often leads to booting issues due to driver and hardware compatibility. If you're just after the data, you don't necessarily need to boot from it. You could connect it as a data drive to another computer (or use a USB adapter) to copy your files—much easier than trying to boot it!
That's right! Just focus on getting the data out first. There are also cloud services if you need a temporary solution.
I get that now! I don't have the hardware to connect it directly, but I'll look into getting a USB adapter.
