Help! My BenQ G2420HDB Monitor Went Dim Suddenly

I'm having a problem with my BenQ G2420HDB monitor that just started today. The screen used to be bright, but now it's incredibly dim. When I turn it on, the logo displays fine at first, but then it dims to almost black. Pressing WIN+SHIFT+CTRL+B makes it brighter for a moment. I've already tried reinstalling the drivers, checking the power cable, and even changing the HDMI cable. I also tested it with another computer and faced the same issue, so I know it's the monitor itself. I've ensured the brightness settings are maxed out. Can anyone help diagnose what's wrong?

It sounds like you might be experiencing a backlight failure. Since you can see the logo but then it dims, it's likely that the issue isn't with your graphics card or drivers, especially since it happens on multiple PCs. When you press WIN+SHIFT+CTRL+B and it briefly gets brighter, that's a classic sign of a failing backlight.

Try this quick check: shine a flashlight on the screen when it's dim. If you can faintly see your desktop, that confirms the backlight is indeed failing. This model has known issues with aging inverters or backlights.

You have a few options for fixing it:
1. Replace the inverter board if you're comfortable opening the monitor.
2. Consider CCFL tube replacement, though it's more labor-intensive.
3. You could also convert it to LED, which is a more permanent solution.

Let me know if you want help identifying the specific parts you’d need!

Thanks for the help! I definitely see the desktop when I shine a flashlight, so I think you might be right. This monitor's been around for a while, so I might just buy a new one instead if it's too much work. But I really appreciate the advice!
