Is There a Big Difference Between 2400MHz CL12 and 3200MHz CL16 RAM?

Hey everyone! I'm just getting into PC building and have a bit of a question about RAM. I recently bought a 4x4GB DDR4 kit that runs at 2400MHz with a CAS latency of 12. I thought it was pretty similar to a 3200MHz CL16 kit, but someone mentioned that there's actually a noticeable difference between the two. I'm curious if the performance gap is significant enough to warrant a change. Also, is overclocking an option I should consider? I really hope I didn't make a mistake with my RAM choice!

The difference can really depend on your CPU. For example, if you're using something like a Ryzen 5 5600, it does support 3200MHz, and you could see a decent performance boost in gaming with that speed increase. So, if you can swap it out, it might be worth it!

Yeah, I agree! If your CPU can handle it, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the faster RAM.

The 3200MHz RAM actually has about 50% more memory bandwidth, which could make a noticeable difference depending on what games or applications you're running. If you get the chance, consider upgrading. But if you're happy with your current setup for now, it might not be urgent.
