Should I Choose the 5070 or the 9070XT for My GPU Upgrade?

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and I've got a dilemma between the 5070 and the 9070XT. I can easily find the 5070 at around $550 MSRP, but the 9070XT is more elusive, usually starting at about $700. From my research, the 9070XT outperforms the 5070 by about 20%, which raises the question: is that extra performance worth the 27% price difference? Also, I've seen a lot of criticism about the 5070—should I be concerned, or is it still a solid choice in today's market?

Considering all the issues AMD has had lately, I’d lean towards the 5070 for peace of mind. I wouldn’t want to deal with unexpected updates that could mess with my gameplay. Nvidia might be a lesser option, but they tend to fix problems faster. So, I'd prioritize the 5070 for reliability and features.

Given the current prices, I'd argue the 5070 provides better value. That said, the 9070XT isn't a bad option if you're set on higher performance. Overall, just make sure it fits into what you're aiming for!

If you're looking between these two, definitely go for the 9070XT. But if we're comparing to the 5070Ti, that's a tougher choice since the Ti is pricing out over $1000 right now.

I’d say it's worth paying the extra $150 for the 9070XT. More performance and VRAM can be a big deal, especially with how much the 5070Ti costs these days.

You can often find MSRP-level 9070XTs on forums or hardware swap sites. If you come across one for around $600, I’d say go for it.

You can’t really go wrong with the 9070XT. It's a solid choice!

If I had to pick, I'd go for the 9070XT. It has that edge in performance that might just make it worth it!

The 9070XT is pretty much on par with the 5070Ti performance-wise, but keep in mind that Nvidia seems to prioritize AI over gaming right now.

It's a tough call, but I don’t believe the 9070XT is worth the additional 27% cost unless you're really into ray tracing or DLSS. If you can spare the extra cash, though, that might sway your decision.

The 9070 does beat the 5070 in ray tracing, and the XT extends that advantage. But do you really need DLSS? You can often get by with FSR alternatives at similar performance levels.

For $700, you might want to consider if you can find a 5070Ti for around $750. I personally love my 9070XT and got it for $600, but at $700 it’s tougher to justify. It really depends on whether you're willing to spend more on the GPU or allocate that budget elsewhere in your setup. Remember, after a point, you might see diminishing returns in performance for the extra cash.

I snagged my 9070XT for €700 while the 5070Ti was priced at €950. You could argue the performance difference justifies the cost, but that was my personal limit. Now, the 5070Ti is over €1000, making it hard to justify the spend.

5070Ti prices are insane right now—running over $900!
