How to Fix Network Connectivity Issues After a Windows Update Interruption?

I'm facing a frustrating issue with my PC where I can surf the web using browsers like Google Chrome, but applications like Steam and Discord won't connect. This problem popped up after a Windows update got interrupted when the power went out. Since then, while my browsers work fine, I can't get these apps to connect. I've already tried running CMD commands like 'netsh int ip reset' and 'ipconfig flushdns,' and I attempted a clean install of Windows 11 using an ISO, but that didn't pan out as my PC struggled to connect during the process.

I also tried booting into Safe Mode, but I couldn't connect to WiFi there either, which made it tough to troubleshoot. I've removed my VPN and antivirus and even disabled the firewall for testing, but nothing has changed. It feels like the interrupted update messed up something in my network settings, and I'm out of options. Any suggestions for getting my apps back online would be greatly appreciated!

It could also be a DNS issue that's causing your apps not to connect. If you suspect that's the case, trying to flush the DNS again or switching to a different DNS server might help.

You might want to use the DISM command to try to fix the broken Windows update. It can help resolve issues caused by interrupted updates and could get your applications working again.

You could download and reinstall the drivers for your network adapter. Sometimes, a broken update can cause the drivers to go haywire. It's worth a shot to see if refreshing them helps with connecting those apps again.

Have you checked if your VPN was still running during the power outage? I had a similar problem when my connection dropped while using ProtonVPN. The sudden reset prevented the VPN from reverting some network settings. You might need to reinstall your VPN and try connecting again to reset those settings, but since you've uninstalled it, this might complicate things unless you can access your VPN account to log in again.
