Experiencing Stuttering and Freezing Issues with My 2017 Corsair One Pro

I'm having a tough time with my 2017 Corsair One Pro. Here's a quick overview of my setup: it has a MSI Z270 Mini-ITX motherboard, an Intel i7-7700k processor, a GTX 1080 connected via a PCIe 3 riser cable, a 500 GB SSD with Windows 11 installed, a 1TB HDD running Ubuntu for troubleshooting, and 16GB of RAM at 2400MHz. Recently, I upgraded to 32GB RAM at 3200MHz, but it's running at 2400 due to my XMP profile limit. The main issue is that I've been experiencing terrible stuttering while watching full-screen 1080p YouTube videos, often resulting in artifacts. I did a clean install of Ubuntu, and the videos played fine, but benchmarks showed something was off. The stuttering translates to cursor lag in Windows, especially right after booting. After swapping in a known-good GTX 1650, the system freezes after a few minutes of use, regardless of the OS. Despite the hardware benchmarks appearing fine for the CPU, the machine crashes. I plan to remove the riser cable soon but I doubt that's the culprit as I still get output. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Removing the riser cable seems like a smart next step; it might be an additional point of failure in your setup. Have you tried running a Memtest86+? Memory issues can sometimes lead to random behavior like what you're experiencing. Also, if you haven't done it yet, try putting your GPU in the second PCIe slot. It might provide a more stable connection. Just make sure to check your motherboard manual for compatibility, though.

I was able to check the GPU placement finally! The riser cable was really loose, and after adjusting it, my PC ran for about 10 minutes without freezing. Looks like it isn’t a dead GPU after all! Might be time for a new motherboard and CPU upgrade, since mine is getting pretty old anyway.
