Which GPU should I choose: RTX 6800 16GB or RTX 3080 10GB?

I'm planning to upgrade my GPU because my RX 580 has been underperforming at 1080p on low settings since I got it back in 2018. I'm considering a used RTX 6800 with 16GB for £290 or a used RTX 3080 with 10GB for £280. Although the 3080 currently has better raw performance, I'm curious about future-proofing—will the additional VRAM of the 6800 make a significant difference when I upgrade to 1440p in about six months? I also have a Ryzen 7 5800XT to pair with it.

If you can, look for a 12GB 3080 or even a 3080 Ti. There are some decent prices out there, and it could be worth the extra effort. Just keep in mind that these cards can be power hungry, so you might need to upgrade your old 750W PSU to support them!

I’ve seen those 12GB 3080 Ti’s too! Power draw is a big consideration, especially if your PSU is aging.

I'd go for the RTX 3080, but not just because of its raw performance. It also has some great upscaling features that really enhance gaming.
