I'm looking for a good e-book reader for Windows that I can use locally within the Edge browser. My main goal is to access Microsoft Online Voices for the read-aloud feature. While I know I can open a PDF directly in Edge, the reading experience isn't the best, and the features are pretty limited. I've tried Calibre, but I've had issues with it; I can't even get it to download and install smoothly. So aside from Calibre, are there any other e-book apps that can run in the web browser and function on localhost?

I primarily use Calibre for handling book metadata and syncing it to my Google Books library, but I can understand your troubles with installing it. Have you looked into using Booklyn? It's browser-based and can run locally, which might be a better fit for what you're trying to do.
I haven’t tried Booklyn yet, but it sounds interesting! I usually stick to PDF readers directly in browsers, and honestly, they've been a mixed bag for features.
