I recently switched to Linux from Windows, mainly because of my frustrations with Windows. I'm a big gamer and wanted to try installing Helldivers 2, but I keep hitting a wall. The game crashes within seconds of launching, and I've never experienced this on Windows with my 8 GB of RAM. Is there a workaround for this issue, or am I out of luck until I can upgrade my RAM, which seems nearly impossible these days?

Try doing this: right-click on the game in your library, go to Properties, then Compatibility, and check the box to force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool. From there, you can experiment with different Proton versions—start with 10.0-4 or 9.0-4, and you might find something that works! Good luck!
If all else fails, you might just have to switch back to Windows for gaming since it can get tricky with compatibility on Linux.
Just to add, I'm running Endeavor OS on a laptop with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H and a GeForce GTX 1650. I love the setup, so I hope things get sorted for you!
First off, it’s important to mention your distro and hardware for better help! Now, why do you suspect it’s a RAM issue? I’d suggest checking ProtonDB for Helldivers 2; it might have known issues or specific fixes listed there.
