I've been experiencing some trouble with my laptop charger pin overheating. I wasn't sure if the discoloration was rust or just normal wear, but after getting a new charger, I can see that the old one definitely shouldn't look like this. Before I start using the new charger, I want to clean out the charging port. I've read a lot about using isopropyl alcohol for cleaning, but I'm a bit worried since it's highly flammable, and the old charger got so hot that it was almost untouchable (I haven't tested the new one yet). What's the safest way to clean this up?

Using 99% isopropyl alcohol is a good idea since it evaporates quickly compared to other cleaners. Just make sure you apply it carefully and let the port dry completely before plugging in your charger again. And by the way, if your charging port is getting that hot, it might be the charger brick overheating, not the port itself!
Isopropyl alcohol is actually your best bet for cleaning rust out of the charging port. Other cleaners can sometimes lead to corrosion, but IPA won’t damage the electronics because it’s non-conductive. Just keep in mind that it is flammable, so make sure everything's cool before you start the cleaning process!
