I'm trying to recover some files that I lost after formatting my SSD last year. These files are from a few years back—does anyone know if there's a way to get them back?

The chances of recovery are pretty slim, especially because of the TRIM command that SSDs use. If you really want to give it a shot, you could clone the SSD first and then run data recovery software on the clone. This way, you're not risking any further data loss on the original drive.

Absolutely! Just make sure to do a bit-for-bit clone since some cloning software might only clone the file structure, which could skip over any recoverable files.

It really depends on your budget. You can either send it to a professional data recovery service or try to do it yourself with some free software. Disk Drill is a commonly recommended program for this kind of thing, and it's known for being user-friendly.

If you used the drive after formatting it, then recovering those files is pretty much impossible. The space on the drive will have been overwritten multiple times, which makes data recovery really difficult.

That's a bummer to hear, but I suspected as much. Thanks for the info!

I've had good luck with Disk Drill in the past; it works really well for recovering lost files. Might be worth a try!
