My Computer’s WiFi is Super Slow – Any Tips to Fix It?

I've got a Windows 11 PC that's about six years old and has decent specs. Usually, I connect it via Ethernet at home and the internet speed is fine. However, when I moved to my school apartment, I've been having major issues connecting to the WiFi. It's really slow when it does connect, and I've even tried it at places like Best Buy, where it still performed worse than other devices. I can't use Ethernet at my apartment unless I maybe set up an extender. I've done all sorts of resets and driver updates, but nothing seems to improve the situation. What can I do to make my WiFi perform better?

First, make sure to check what kind of PC you have—is it a desktop or a laptop? That can help narrow down the options for fixing the connection.

Have you tried removing any viruses or spyware? Sometimes those hidden intruders can really slow down your internet speed.

I just installed Windows 11, but I didn't notice any improvement.

You might want to consider getting a USB Wi-Fi adapter with a strong antenna. They can really help boost reception if your internal hardware isn’t cutting it.

Where can I find something like that, and are they pricy?

Have you checked if the wireless drivers are up to date? If not, that could be the issue. A good dual-band USB wireless dongle might make a big difference too!

It's a cyber power c series desktop.

An alternative is to just run a longer Ethernet cable temporarily. That way, you can avoid the WiFi hassle while figuring things out.
