What’s the Best Way to Fix My Seagate Hard Drive at Home?

I have a 2TB Seagate external hard drive that connects via USB. It appears in Device Manager but isn't visible in my files. I opened it up because I heard a scratching noise, and I think the headers might be the issue, although I've never tried to fix a hard drive before. I'm looking for advice or a step-by-step guide on how to fix it, if possible!

First off, it's generally not a good idea to open up a hard drive unless you're a pro and have access to a clean room. Even tiny dust particles can cause serious damage. Since your drive shows up in Device Manager, it likely means the drive itself is having issues, not just the enclosure. My best advice is to stop using it to avoid further damage. If recovering data is important, consider sending it to a professional service. And definitely make sure to back up your data in the future!

What do you mean by it being the actual drive? I'm okay with it being broken, but if there's a way I can try to fix it before tossing it, I'm open to that.
