I'm planning to upgrade my CPU and motherboard for the first time since I've already customized most of my PC. Currently, I have an Intel Core i5-8400 CPU on an ASUS Prime B360M-A motherboard. My GPU is an ASUS Radeon RX 7800 XT with 16GB of GDDR6 RAM, and I also have a combination of HyperX Fury and Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM totaling 48GB. For storage, I use a Samsung 980 PRO 1TB and a Samsung PM981 256GB SSD. The rest of my setup includes a Phanteks Eclipse P400S case and a 750W Power Supply.
I'm looking to switch to an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor and an MSI MPG B550 Gaming Carbon WIFI motherboard, along with a Noctua NH-D15 cooler. These recommendations came from a chat with GPT, but I want to verify their reliability. Will these new components work well with my existing parts? What else will I need to replace apart from getting thermal paste for the CPU? Thanks for your insights!

Your CPU upgrade looks solid! The Ryzen 9 5950X is a beast and will definitely enhance your gaming and productivity. The new motherboard and cooler are good picks as well. You might want to check out this list I made for better options if you're aiming for something even more modern. Just a heads-up though, thermal paste is a personal choice; I swear by Kryonaut for the best cooling!
You should really consider what you'll be using this setup for. The 5950X is fantastic for heavy multitasking but for gaming, especially VR, there might be better choices that give good performance at a lower price. The D15 cooler is good but also quite expensive compared to newer options. Also, keep in mind you'll likely need to upgrade your RAM eventually since 2666MHz is on the low side for modern CPUs.
My main focus is gaming and streaming, especially VR. I want a build that will be reliable for years to come.

Sounds great! But how future-proof do you think these parts are? I want them to last at least 5 years without needing more upgrades.
