Hey everyone! I'm about to order the WD_BLACK SN850X SSD, and I've heard it tends to run hot, so I'm leaning towards getting the version with a heatsink. However, I'm a bit concerned about whether it will fit in my system because my GPU and CPU cooler are quite large. Here's my setup:
- Motherboard: B550M DS3H AC
- GPU: 9070x XFX Quicksilver
- CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
Can anyone tell me if the heatsink version will fit? Thanks for the help!

You should be good! The heatsink won’t interfere with your CPU cooler, so I think you’ll have enough clearance.
It should fit without any issues. The SN850X's heatsink is actually pretty low profile compared to others. That said, I've noticed the price is a bit nuts lately since it's been discontinued. You might want to look at some alternatives like the Samsung 990 Evo Plus or Lexar NM790, as they could save you some cash.
Consider skipping the built-in heatsink and just grab a cheap third-party one. They come in various sizes and can usually handle heat just fine for a lot less money.
The temperature issue really comes into play mainly during heavy workloads or if the SSD is in a tight spot without good airflow—like near the back of the motherboard. What are you primarily using the SSD for, by the way?
