I discovered an unfamiliar camera on my laptop, named UvcHam, in addition to my main webcam. I can't locate it anywhere, not even in Device Manager. This is making me nervous because it shows up in my Chrome settings and during online webcam tests, indicating it might be active. Is this a virus or malware? What should I do?

There are reports that a file called UvcHam.exe is associated with malicious activity, especially if you upgraded from Windows 10 to 11. Try checking the folder C:Program FilesUvcHam. If it’s there, rename it to something obvious like zzzUvcHam, then do a cold reboot. This won't alter the Windows registry, but you might want to check the Event Viewer for any errors related to that folder.
It sounds like this is related to software used during proctored exams. It gives permission for that software to access your webcam and microphone. If you’re getting an error about multiple camera devices, it's worth ensuring you don’t have any virtual camera software installed or conflicting drivers.
That’s not quite the case. I was blocked from taking the test because it said there were multiple camera devices detected! So, it definitely didn’t belong to the exam software, and it’s still showing up after I closed everything.
