What Power Supply Do I Need for an RTX 5080?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to upgrade my PC and need some advice on power supplies. I'm looking at getting a new case, a PSU, and a GPU. I found the Seasonic GX-1000-V4 on the SPL list, but I heard from bequiet support that I'll need an adapter for the RTX 5080 since my current PSU doesn't support the required cable. I'm hesitant about using adapters because I want to avoid any potential burning or melting issues. Ideally, I want a PSU that comes with the appropriate cable to ensure safe operation. Is the GX-1000-V4 a solid choice, especially when paired with the Fractal Design Meshify 3 Ambience Pro RGB case and an RTX 5080? My goal is to achieve better performance at 1440p since I just got a 480Hz OLED monitor. Any help would be greatly appreciated! My current setup includes a 7800x3d CPU, an RTX 3080 GPU, and a Be Quiet Straight Power 11 850W Platinum PSU, along with 6000MHz CL30 G.Skill RAM.

I have an RTX 5080 too, and I’m using a Corsair RM850e. It works perfectly with the native 12V-2x6 pin connectors. Just ensure that your PSU has enough connectors for what you'll need. I also used a 90-degree CableMod cable since my case had tight clearance.

Great advice! It seems crucial to use the proper cable for the RTX 5080. I've come across mixed comments about this, so it’s good to know it works for you.

1000W is definitely more than you need for an RTX 5080; 850W should suffice. Just make sure you’re using the cable that your PSU came with, that way you won’t run into compatibility issues.

I couldn't find a PSU on the SPL list that has the new GPU cable included. I mainly searched for Seasonic models since I've heard they're reliable.

You probably won't need a full 1000W for that setup; 850W should actually be plenty. It's always good to have extra wattage available, but it's overkill in this case. Just make sure to use the cable that comes with your PSU for the RTX 5080 to avoid any issues.

Do you have any other PSU recommendations that come with the new GPU cable? I really want to avoid adapters.
