About a decade ago, I tried to create an Apple ID to use a hand-me-down iPod but faced constant rejections, which made me give up. Now, I've decided to switch from Android to Apple and bought a used iPhone. It arrives in two days, but when I tried to create a new Apple account in advance, I faced the same issue – all my attempts are getting rejected. I'm getting messages like "This phone number cannot be used" without any clear explanation, and I can't find a way to appeal. Has anyone else gone through this? I'm starting to wonder if I should just stick with Android.

You might want to wait for your iPhone to arrive and let your wife set up the account using her info. That way, you can bypass the issues you've been having. Just a thought!
When creating an Apple account, keep in mind that using a phone number is mostly limited to Apple Music on Android and in places like China. If you have an existing email validated to another Apple account, you won’t be able to use it either. I suggest trying to set up your account from an Apple device when you get your iPhone. If you still face issues, you could start the process at account.apple.com instead.
But shouldn’t I be using my actual phone number linked to my SIM card when I get the iPhone?
