I'm having some trouble with my laptop; it really starts to lag whenever I open a game. Here are some details about its performance:
- Physical memory usage is between 43% and 50%, with about 8.95 GB available out of a total of 15.9 GB.
- For virtual memory, my usage is around 40%, with about 10.0 GB available out of 16.9 GB.
- However, the system working set jumps up to 63% and can even spike to 99%, leaving me with just 141 MB available out of 386 MB total. I'm not sure what's going wrong and how to fix it.

The memory stats don't seem too bad, but with your working set spiking to 99%, something's definitely using up your resources. I'd check your CPU and GPU usage while gaming and monitor for any overheating. Also, look into what's auto-starting on boot and shut down unnecessary apps before you launch a game. What’s the hardware you’re working with, and which games are causing issues?
It sounds like your laptop might just be too old for gaming now. It has a low-end CPU that’s over ten years old, which can’t handle newer games well. Even though it was running fine before, age can really affect performance.
Yeah, but it was fine just two weeks ago! What changed?
Sometimes background processes update and use up resources, so it might not be the games themselves.
Have you tried rolling back the latest Windows update? Sometimes a patch can destabilize your system performance, and going back might help ease the lag.
I haven’t checked that yet. I’ll give it a go and see if that helps.

My laptop has an Intel i5-6300U CPU, 16 GB RAM, and I'm running Windows 11 Pro. It's been lagging in a couple of games I used to play without issues.
