What’s the Best CPU Upgrade for Gaming?

I'm in the process of upgrading my PC, and I'm currently using an Intel Core i7-8700 CPU with 6 cores and 16GB of DDR4 RAM on a TUF Z370-PLUS GAMING II motherboard. Since the newer Intel CPUs require an LGA 1700 socket, I know I need to replace my CPU, RAM, and motherboard. I play games like Rainbow Six, X-Plane, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and I also do some coding. I've been looking at the Intel Core i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12-Core Processor. Is that a good choice, or do you have other recommendations? Thanks!

You can actually find LGA 1700 boards that allow you to reuse your existing DDR4 RAM, which is a nice option. The 12700K is a solid CPU, so you're on the right track!

I would recommend spending a bit more now to go for DDR5 RAM. It’s more of an investment, but you'll be able to upgrade in the future!

Definitely keep your RAM if you want, but you will need to swap out your motherboard and CPU. You might also want to check out the Intel Core i5-14600K or 14600KF—great performance overall!
