I recently received a quote from a value-added reseller for a replacement server, and while everything seems to be within spec, the RAM and SSD prices are shocking. They quoted $21,000 for 128GB of DDR5 RAM and $15,000 for 6 SAS 960GB SSDs. I knew prices were elevated, but this feels like it's out of control! Is this level of pricing commonplace now, or have they completely lost touch? I realize $10,000 might be considered low, but a year ago, a server like this could have easily come in at that price.

Prices are wild! We recently quoted a 4-node cluster and thought it might come around $200k but ended up getting quoted $610k instead. Everything is just way inflated right now.
I had a client who was presented with a quote for a basic server last year at around $8,500, which they refused. Now, to get the same kind of server, the quote is sitting at over $32,000! The increases in prices seem extreme and well beyond what feels normal.
True, prices seem to be skyrocketing all around. If they wait any longer, they might be facing even worse prices due to the rush for AI capabilities.
I can't help but think this is a plot to drive people into cloud adoption. With all the new AI data centers popping up, businesses seem to be forced into renting instead of owning.
Yeah, I’ve definitely seen similar price hikes recently. I got a quote last July for a $30,000 server, and now it’s ballooned to $71,000 because of what’s happening with hardware. The demand seems to be skyrocketing, and it’s pushing prices off the charts!
They seem to be buying up all the available hardware, so many of us are being pushed back towards cloud solutions since that’s becoming the only feasible option.
Right? Ordered new servers and storage towards the end of last year for about $70,000, but looking at the same specs now, it would have been 130k easily.

Wow, that’s just insane! With that kind of markup, it’s hard to even justify making a new purchase.
