Should I buy one or two RAM sticks for my PC?

I'm planning to purchase some PC components tomorrow, but I've noticed that RAM prices are quite high right now. A single 16GB DDR5 stick costs about $220 in my country, and a pair of 16GB DDR5 sticks (32GB total) doubles that cost. I'm considering buying just one 16GB stick for now and getting another later since it's more budget-friendly. However, I'm wondering if my PC will function well with just one stick, particularly as I'll be using it for college projects like coding and gaming. Should I invest in the pair now or stick with just one for the time being?

Honestly, if it were me, I’d go for the 32GB option if your budget allows. It’s one of those 'buy once, cry once' scenarios. If you buy one stick now, you might struggle later to find an identical one. Plus, having a matching pair is better for performance. While one stick is suitable, upgrading later could get tricky due to stock or compatibility issues.

Exactly! Prices can fluctuate, and who knows what they’ll be like in the future?

Your PC should work just fine with just one stick of RAM. In fact, a lot of office PCs only use one RAM stick. Just keep in mind that if you plan on adding a second stick later, especially with DDR5, it's best to have them match closely. If you can handle the cost now, grabbing both could save you the trouble of finding a compatible stick later. Otherwise, going with one for now is totally okay and would suffice for your college work and gaming.
