Why Is My PC Only Booting When I Hold the Restart Button?

I've been having a recurring issue with my PC where it only powers on if I hold down the restart button for about 8 seconds. When I press the power button, the lights, mouse, and fans turn on, but the screen and keyboard remain unresponsive. Occasionally, holding the restart button will cause the PC to shut off completely instead of turning on. I've tried swapping the RAM, cleaning the slots, and even replaced the CMOS battery. My motherboard is quite old, supporting only LGA 1155 and DDR3, but my power supply is working fine!

If it's still giving you trouble, it could also be a sign that your motherboard is starting to fail, especially since it’s older. Have you checked for any visible damage?

It might be worth checking your connections as well. Sometimes a loose cable can cause the boot process to fail. Double-check everything inside the case.

Have you considered updating your BIOS? Sometimes outdated firmware can cause weird boot issues like this.
