What’s the Best Desktop Under £2k for Heavy Development and Business Use?

I'm on the hunt for a solid desktop that can handle heavy development tasks and business operations, without any gaming involved, all for under £2,000. My daily workload includes a lot of coding and local builds, using AI tools in my browser, managing hundreds of Chrome tabs, working with spreadsheets and documents, staying connected via email and Slack, watching and occasionally editing videos, and running light VMs or containers.

Currently, I have a Precision M5530 (Xeon E-2176M, 32GB ECC, 1TB SSD, Quadro P1000, 4K touchscreen) that I've had since 2018, and it's been great. However, I'm starting to hit the RAM limit with 32GB; it gets laggy when I have too many tabs and builds open. Therefore, I have a few requirements for my next machine: it should be under £2,000, have at least 64GB of RAM (preferably upgradable to 128GB), feature fast NVMe storage, be compact in size, and ideally last for five years. What are the best recommendations for a desktop like this right now?

If your current setup only has RAM issues, have you thought about upgrading that? Maybe just get a new motherboard to support extra RAM slots if needed?

My M5530 is a laptop, so I’m looking to switch from a workstation laptop to a desktop. My laptop is 8 years old, and upgrading seems like a temporary fix; I prefer getting a high-spec machine every 5 years rather than constantly upgrading.

Check this out! I found a build that’s about 80 euros under your budget: [PCPartPicker link](https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZfVzyF). It has a great CPU, 64GB RAM, Micro ATX case, 6 cooling fans, 4TB Gen 4 NVMe storage, 4TB HDD, and a 16GB VRAM GPU. Plus, it has extra RAM slots for future upgrades.

Wow, did you really design this PC spec for me? That’s awesome! I’ve never seen this site before; thanks for the heads-up!

Glad you like it! Just a heads-up, you might not even need the HDD storage if you’ve got a Synology NAS that's mostly empty. Regarding the DDR4-3200 RAM, it’s a good choice for stability and performance, but you can look into faster options if you're curious. Plus, I'm sure the overall CPU mark will be solid!
