Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my Ryzen 7 3700X after five years and I'm torn between the Ryzen 7 5700X3D and the Ryzen 9 5950X. I currently have an RTX 4070, and while I considered moving to the AM5 platform, the RAM prices are really high right now, so I think I'll stick with AM4 for the time being. I'm mainly interested in how much of a performance boost I could expect from either of these processors with my existing GPU. Which one would you recommend?

Honestly, if you're considering a long-term upgrade path, check out what's available with AM5. There are some great combo deals that come with a 7600X3D and 16GB of DDR5 RAM, all for a price that’s comparable to the 5700X3D and 5950X. The 5950X is better for heavy workloads, but it might be overkill for gaming. Moving to AM5 could be a wiser investment.

The 5950X isn’t a good choice unless you’re tackling serious multicore tasks. It’s difficult to cool and doesn’t perform optimally at high frequencies unless you disable some cores. If you really want to game, look closer at the 5700X or even just go for the 5800X. It'll give you almost the same gaming performance without breaking the bank.

If you're focused on gaming, the 5700X3D is your best bet since it really shines in that area. Just keep in mind that it’s been discontinued, so finding one at a good price might be tricky. The 5950X, while powerful for tasks like video editing, isn't really worth it if you just want to game. If you primarily play games, the 5700X3D will give you a solid performance boost.

For pure gaming, definitely go for the 5700X3D if you can find it. It offers great performance for gaming. However, due to the limited supply and higher prices, I’d suggest looking at the 5800XT for an AM4 upgrade. It might not be as hyped, but it’s likely the sweet spot for gaming without the unnecessary premium on the 5700X3D.
