I'm wondering if a damaged motherboard, particularly regarding an occupied M.2 slot, can harm the SSD installed in it. Additionally, can a problematic M.2 SSD affect the slot it's in?

Absolutely, both scenarios are possible. A faulty motherboard could potentially harm the SSD in the M.2 slot, and conversely, a malfunctioning SSD might cause damage to the slot itself.

That helps a lot! If one M.2 slot is acting up but the motherboard seems fine overall, is there a way to check the slot for issues? I don't have an extra SSD to swap in, but could using a multimeter help diagnose any problems?
