I'm currently using an ASRock B450M Pro4 motherboard, a GTX 1660 Super graphics card, and a Ryzen 5 3600X CPU. I'm considering upgrades but not looking to spend a ton of money. Should I upgrade specific parts now, or is it better to replace the whole system? I also have 16GB of DDR4 RAM but I'm seeking improved performance overall.

I’d suggest focusing on the GPU as well, especially if you're gaming at 1080p. Aim for something like a 3060 Ti or a 3070 to really boost your frame rates. After that, consider upgrading your CPU to something like a Ryzen 7 5800X; just ensure your power supply unit (PSU) can handle the upgrade.
Upgrading your GPU is definitely the best first step! A more powerful graphics card will significantly improve your gaming experience. However, keep in mind that a full system upgrade might be what you need to really see better performance. If you're okay with your current performance level, you could just go for a GPU upgrade and see how that feels.
Your best bet is to start with the GPU for sure, then look at the CPU next. More RAM would help too, especially for smoother performance. Given what you've got, something like a 3080 could be an excellent way to future-proof your setup.
