I recently purchased a Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU but haven't built my PC yet. While considering other components, I came across a Ryzen 9 5950X featuring 16 cores, which made me wonder if I made the right choice. Since I already have a dedicated GPU, the integrated graphics capability of the CPU doesn't really matter. I'm planning to run some demanding games at 1080p and I'm starting to worry if the 5800X3D is sufficient. Is the number of cores a significant factor for gaming performance, or am I good with what I have?

Trust me, your 5800X3D is not just solid; it’s among the best options out there without jumping to DDR5. More than eight cores won’t really boost your gaming experience, and with the X3D cache, you'll enjoy fantastic performance! Definitely don’t sell or trade it.
You're definitely good with the 5800X3D! Eight cores is plenty for gaming, and this CPU is actually one of the fastest for gaming on the AM4 platform. Higher core counts are more useful for heavy productivity tasks. For gaming, especially at 1080p, your CPU is top-notch!
