Can I Force an iPad Update on an Older Model?

I've got the first generation iPad Pro, and it still works like a charm, but it's stuck on iOS 16.7.10. The app I really need to use requires at least iOS 17.5. Is there any way to jailbreak this device to force an upgrade to iOS 17.5 or even 18?

Even if you could somehow manage to install iOS 17 or 18, those versions wouldn’t work properly with the hardware components of your iPad Pro. There’s a good chance it wouldn’t even boot up!

As an app developer, I can tell you that we often limit OS requirements because newer apps use features that older operating systems just don’t support. It’s not just a way to sell more devices; sometimes, it’s a necessary limitation for functionality.

What you're experiencing is a common issue called 'forced obsolescence.' Tech companies release new models each year and often stop supporting older ones to encourage customers to upgrade. It's frustrating, but that's how the industry operates!

Unfortunately, there’s no way to force an update like that. If the app you're trying to use is vital, you might be better off looking for a newer iPad. You’ve gotten a good run out of your device already!
