Our private school is looking to manage around 40 iPads efficiently with a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution. We want to streamline updates and settings across all devices. Since we're entirely within the Apple ecosystem and the iPads will remain on-site, we don't need remote management features. However, we're not part of the Apple School Manager program, which limits our options. We also can't afford the high costs of professional solutions like Jamf or Addigy, which would be too much for us to pass onto parents. We're too large for free options that only support up to 25 devices. Are there any suitable MDM solutions that would work for a small setup like ours? I have basic computer knowledge but lack specialized network or sysadmin experience. Thanks in advance!

Have you thought about open-source alternatives like FleetMDM? They might fit your needs without the hefty price tag.
You could also try using Intune with Azure AD. It could work for what you're aiming to do, depending on your school’s tech stack.
Consider Mosyle as well! They provide the first 30 devices for free, plus their interface is straightforward. Even without ASM/ABM, it can help with syncing and making some tasks easier for you. Check out their site: https://mosyle.com/
You might want to check out Mosyle. It's more affordable than Jamf and still offers plenty of features. You can choose which settings to use, and it’s really user-friendly.
It could be a good idea to reach out to Apple directly. They've been surprisingly helpful with similar situations in the past for others.

I agree! Mosyle is definitely worth looking into, especially for smaller setups.
