Best CPU Upgrade for Gaming Without Breaking the Bank

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU because my current setup just doesn't cut it anymore. I have an RTX 4070 and 16GB of RAM paired with a Ryzen 2700X, which is causing a bottleneck. I got the PC for $300, and even though I upgraded the GPU for a great deal at $200, I'm hesitant to spend $300-$400 on an AM4 CPU like the 5700X3D or 5800X3D. I mainly play a lot of CS2 and need something that gives me the best price-to-performance ratio. What are my options?

If you're not keen on spending for AM4, consider biting the bullet for an AM5 upgrade. The 7800X3D is a good performer and could be a solid investment for the future.

You might want to look at the 5800X or 5800XT—they’re both available at better prices lately. The higher demand for the X3D models means you can usually find the non-X3D versions cheaper, and they still perform well for gaming.

Totally agree! I can't believe how affordable the 5800XT is right now. It could be a steal.

Keep an eye on local marketplaces like Facebook or eBay. I picked up a 5700X3D for just $220 from someone nearby. You might find a good deal too!

In terms of price-to-performance, the R5-5600 series (like 5600X or 5600T) is usually your best bet. If you want a bit more power, you can opt for the 5700X or 5800X, but just go for the cheapest option you can find that fits your needs.

If you’re okay with 6 cores, the 5600 is a great choice. Otherwise, go for the 5700 for 8 cores. There’s also the 5500X3D available online, which might be a bit pricier but offers solid performance over non-X3D AM4 CPUs.
