I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and need advice on which option to choose. I recently switched to an AM5 platform (I know, the timing wasn't ideal, but my old CPU was failing, and I wanted to act before prices shot up). Here are my current specs:
- Ryzen 5 9600x
- 16GB DDR5 RAM (2x8, CL 40, 5200)
- EVGA RTX 2080 XC ULTRA 8GB (used)
- 700W PSU (which I'm planning to upgrade since it's old)
I'm considering moving to an AMD GPU, and the three I'm looking at are: the 9060 XT, a used 7900 XTX (likely from eBay), and the 9070 XT. I realize the prices vary significantly between these options, but I'd be willing to spend an extra $100 or $200 if it means getting a GPU that will be reliable and effective for at least the next five years. Currently, I'm gaming on a 1080p monitor but may upgrade to 1440p in the future. Also, I want to avoid a GPU that requires a 600W adapter because I'm hesitant about its reliability. All the GPUs I'm considering have 16GB or more of VRAM since I feel 8GB is low and 12GB is simply not enough. What would you all recommend?

First, what are the prices for all three GPUs? That can really impact your decision. The 9060 XT is a solid choice for entry-level 1440p gaming, but it may not be powerful enough to last five years for demanding titles.
Go for the RX 9070 XT with 16GB VRAM. It's a bit of a cost upfront, but once you upgrade your PSU to a good quality 850W Gold unit, you’ll have the stability you need. It's well worth the investment for future-proofing your setup. Just remember to fresh install the VGA driver after you swap out your GPU!
If you're leaning towards the 9060 XT, your current PSU should handle it just fine. However, the 7900 XTX requires a high-quality PSU and specific cabling to work properly. Personally, I'd suggest the 9060 XT unless you're buying a new one versus a used card. It should handle both 1080p and 1440p gaming decently.
