Do I Need a Specific USB-C to USB-A Adapter for My Dell Dock?

Hey everyone, I'm about to get a Dell dock that connects to a laptop using USB-C only. I want to use DisplayLink since my laptop, a Latitude E7450, lacks a USB-C port. Can I buy any USB-C to USB-A adapter for this, or do I need one that's specific?

Good question! If your dock comes with DisplayLink technology, then you don’t need a specific adapter to connect to your laptop. You just want an adapter that supports data transfer correctly. Make sure to verify whether the dock itself needs the chip onboard. What model are you using for the dock?

I'm getting the Dell WD19s. I thought the laptop needs the DisplayLink installed but wasn’t sure about the adapter specifics.

Just to clarify, the Latitude E7450 should actually have USB-C ports, so double-check your model. If it does have those ports, you should skip DisplayLink since using the native connection is better. If your laptop truly doesn't have a USB-C port, then yes, you will need a suitable adapter for your dock.

Thanks for the heads up! I realize now I might have the E7450 model which lacks USB-C. I'm definitely looking for the right adapter.
