Is DDR4 RAM a Good Choice for My First Gaming PC?

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about upgrading my setup since I'm building a desktop mainly for gaming. The most demanding games I play are Genshin Impact, Monster Hunter Rise, and Outer Worlds. I've noticed that DDR5 RAM prices are pretty outrageous right now, and I found some DDR4 options that are much more affordable. I know there will be some performance loss with DDR4, but I'm not an expert. Would that performance drop be significant, or is going for DDR4 a reasonable choice given my situation?

First off, check if your motherboard and CPU can support DDR4. If you're getting a new motherboard, make sure it matches the RAM type you choose! If you plan to use an AMD Ryzen 5, it's important to know whether you're going with AM4 (DDR4) or AM5 (DDR5).

Thanks for the tip! I haven't bought the motherboard yet. I plan to get it after I decide on the RAM.

There's a lot to think about. If you’re on a tight budget of around 900 euros, consider the long-term investment. DDR5 might be pricier now, but it'll give you more upgrade options later. If you got a DDR5 motherboard, it'll last you longer compared to sticking with DDR4.

Honestly, just buy what fits your budget. If DDR4 is significantly cheaper and you're not playing super heavy games, it could be a solid choice for you right now.
