I recently switched from Windows to Linux Mint and so far, I'm enjoying the experience! However, I'm looking for a more responsive operating system and I'm considering CachyOS. My question is, how much more setup is involved with CachyOS compared to Mint? Will most things work out of the box like they do with Mint, or can I expect to spend a significant amount of time configuring it?

I've been using CachyOS for over a year now and the installation process is actually quite similar to Mint’s. You just choose your installation drive, keyboard layout, and desktop environment (I recommend KDE Plasma if you're transitioning from Windows). After installation, it's just like any other OS – you’ll need to download your apps and configure a bit. However, you'll need to get familiar with pacman and its helpers for updates instead of apt. Just remember to update regularly since it's a rolling release!

By the way, if you like the Cinnamon desktop from Mint, you can install it during setup or switch to it later on CachyOS!

If you're looking for a snappier OS, you might not notice a big difference. Just keep in mind that switching distros involves some learning curve, especially with a rolling release like CachyOS where you have to manage updates yourself. But hey, it might be worth it for the speed!

From my experience, CachyOS is pretty user-friendly and you'll find that most things work quite well right off the bat. There might be a few bumps along the way since it's Arch-based, but if you're enjoying experimenting, you should definitely give it a try! If you want to play it safe, testing the live version or running it in a virtual machine could be smart.
