How Can My Mom Fix Her Phone That Took My Data?

So, my mom just bought the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but somehow, it's set up with all my information like my background, apps, and texts. She insists she set it up as her own, but it looks exactly like my phone! I'm super worried that anything she changes on this phone will affect mine. What should we do to fix this? Just to clarify, she switched her phone number back to her old phone, and we're planning to set up the new one at the Verizon store tomorrow.

It sounds like you might have accidentally used the "Quick Start" feature, which can transfer settings and data if both phones are nearby. Make sure your mom isn't logged into your Apple ID either. A factory reset could really help to start fresh, but you'll need to set it up carefully this time.

But how would they set up the new one if the old phone doesn’t have a number anymore?

I think you two need to double-check if you're still sharing the same Apple ID. If you guys are, that's a huge reason why this is happening. It’s frustrating, but once you get your new phone and set up your own account, it should fix a lot of issues. Just be careful during the setup process!

Yeah, we've always had the same Apple ID since I was a kid. I'm finally getting my new phone soon, so I'll have my own Apple ID and number.

Definitely make sure you’re not using the same Apple ID to avoid these mix-ups in the future. After the new phone setup, you’ll want to create a new account for yourself to keep things separate.

Just to clarify, if both phones are close together, they could connect over WiFi and transfer data that way. A full factory reset should solve your problem and help avoid any more mix-ups.
