Should I stick with Vercel or switch to a VPS like Vultr?

I'm currently using Vercel for my web game, but I've hit a limit because of the number of images I'm hosting. Vercel is prompting me to upgrade to their pro plan, which costs $20 a month. I'm considering switching to a VPS service like Vultr, which is only $5 a month. What do you all think? Is it worth the switch, or should I stay with Vercel? Any thoughts on ease of setup and long-term benefits?

For a straightforward transition, I suggest these steps: 1. Get a VPS, 2. Install Coolify or Dokku, and 3. Profit from a Vercel-like experience for way less!

Haha, awesome plan! Just a quick note: when you set up your VPS, make sure you also check out Hetzner for potentially better specs at a similar price.

I started with a VPS through Hostinger, and now I run my own setup. I pay only for my hostname and electricity, which is super cheap! However, I see why many folks opt for platforms like Vercel for quick deployments. It’s definitely a trade-off between simplicity and control.

Exactly! I’m testing out Vultr and loving how cost-effective it is. Vercel's limit on images really caught me off guard. I'm looking into a CI/CD setup to automate my deployments whenever I push to GitHub.

It really depends on how comfortable you are with setting up and managing your server. If you'd prefer to pay for the convenience, Vercel keeps things simple. But if you're up for the challenge of setting it up yourself, a VPS could save you some cash in the long run!

I totally get that. I was surprised how straightforward the setup process was once I tried it.
