I've recently found myself in need of a new GPU after my RTX 3060 12GB broke down due to glitches and lagging issues. Currently, I'm using an old RX 550 4GB, and it's not cutting it for my 3D projects as a motion designer. I'm looking for something around $400 or less that can handle 3D work well. I don't need it to run the latest games at ultra settings, but that would be a nice bonus. I'm also considering getting something more powerful in 1-2 years and passing this GPU on to my brother. I was thinking about the RTX 5060 8GB for about $390, but I've heard mixed opinions about whether 8GB is sufficient for larger 3D projects. I've also heard that AMD GPUs might not be the best for professional work, but I'm open to suggestions. Any advice?

It really depends on what software you're working with, but remember that high VRAM cards are usually more expensive. If you just need more VRAM and don’t require top performance, you might want to look into older GPUs that have 12 or 16 GB VRAM but are less about compute power. They could save you some money!
While I’m not a 3D pro, I'd suggest looking at AMD here. You can find a 12GB 7700XT for around $300, which gives you great VRAM and decent performance. The 70 series can push up to 24GB VRAM, offering a lot of value for the price. Yes, Nvidia may have an edge in professional settings, but for the cost, AMD makes sense for many 3D tasks. Just make sure to do your research!
If budget allows, consider saving for a higher-end GPU like the 3080 12GB or even the 3090 for the ultimate performance. The extra VRAM will be definitely beneficial for demanding 3D projects.
For 3D work, it’s best to stick with Nvidia due to CUDA support since most rendering software favors it. An NVIDIA 3060 with 12GB VRAM should work well for you, but if you can find any secondhand options, they might be helpful too.
You might also want to consider an Intel ARC B580 for about $300, which has 12GB of VRAM and is good for gaming as well. If you find the Intel ARC Pro B50 with 16GB VRAM, that could be a solid choice for professional setups. Also keep an eye out for the 9060 XT, but it may be tough to find under $400 right now, given the AMD price increases.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely look into AMD options.
