Help with Black Screen Issues After Installing RTX 5070

Hey everyone, I'm piecing together an old PC and I've run into a serious issue after upgrading to an RTX 5070. Here are my specs: Ryzen 1800X, Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4, MSI B350 Arctic Tomahawk, Corsair RM 850, and a Critical M.2.

After installing the RTX 5070, I spent hours uninstalling and reinstalling every Nvidia driver to no avail. Every time I install a driver, the PC freezes and goes to a black screen. I'm using the adapter that came with the card, and I've connected it with two separate 8-pin cables.

I've updated everything I could think of, including switching the PCIe setting to 3.0 instead of auto, as I've read that can cause issues. I've even reinstalled Windows five times! The card works fine with Windows display drivers, which makes me think it's not a hardware fault.

I'm really stuck here trying to figure out if the issue lies in the drivers or some kind of conflict. Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

It seems like there are some ongoing issues with the latest Nvidia drivers right now. The fact that your PC runs fine on basic Windows drivers suggests it's an Nvidia-related problem. It might be worth waiting for a better driver update before making other changes.

Yeah, I noticed Nvidia keeps claiming they've fixed the black screen issues, but it seems like many are still having trouble.

It sounds like there could be an incompatibility between your old motherboard and CPU with the new GPU, even if it seems like it should work. Also, keep in mind that your Ryzen 1800X might bottleneck the RTX 5070 performance. If you can, consider looking into newer components, like an AM5 7500F or 7600, which could resolve your issues and allow for better performance overall.

I know I'm likely facing some bottleneck issues, but I've done my compatibility checks and everything should technically work. If the GPU stays problematic, I might have to think about returning it and upgrading my setup as I go.

Have you checked if your BIOS is up to date? That’s often the first thing to do when dealing with new hardware on an older system. Just make sure that the latest BIOS version still supports your CPU.

I checked the BIOS first thing and it's fully updated!
