Why won’t my Japanese DVD play on my multi-region DVD player?

I recently bought a DVD set from Japan, and I'm having trouble getting it to work on my multi-region DVD player here in the UK. I've never faced this issue before, and I've already tried it on a brand new multi-region player. Each of the three discs won't play. I'm including a photo of the DVD box for reference. Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this? Thanks!

It sounds like the DVDs you got might be region 2, which aligns with the UK. However, keep in mind that they're also NTSC format. Since your player is multi-region but possibly PAL, that's likely where the problem lies. You might want to check if your player specifically supports NTSC playback as well.

Just to clarify, when you say multi-region, do you mean a region-free player? If that's the case, typically it should handle various formats, but if it’s a PAL player without NTSC compatibility, that could be the hitch. Double-check the specs of your player.
