Is My Laptop Charger Brick Swelling Up?

I've recently noticed something odd with my laptop charger. It's only a few weeks old, but there's a noticeable bump on the top that stands out compared to the surrounding areas. I'm not sure if this is normal or if it indicates something unsafe. The model number is ADP-180TB H. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

From what you’ve described, it doesn’t sound like typical battery-style inflation. Charger bricks usually don’t puff up like batteries do. The bump might be just a result of uneven molding in the plastic. However, if that bump is new, getting worse, or if it's hot to the touch, I recommend you stop using it and consider replacing it. A charger shouldn't change shape over time, and if this is a cosmetic issue that hasn't affected the temperature, you might be okay, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

That bump could signal a more serious issue, like a damaged capacitor. I would seriously recommend throwing that charger out and getting a new one. Keeping a potentially faulty charger could pose a fire risk.

I saw the photo you shared, and I have to ask—does that bump feel warm to the touch? If it’s heating up, it could mean there’s a problem like failing transformer windings which could lead to it breaking. If it’s not hot, it might just be a manufacturing flaw, but keep an eye on it.

Honestly, I’ve never seen a bump like that on a charger brick before, and I think it’s a bad sign. It’s best to stop using it right away and take it to a local computer shop to get it checked out.
