I work a union job with a flexible hybrid schedule—two days in the office and two days working from home each week. Recently, our team has been down a few people, including my supervisor and another admin. We've been handling a lot of urgent issues and projects on our own, and I just found out that my director thinks we should all be in the office every day to stabilize things. I'm really not convinced that's necessary and feel ready to refuse this request. Am I being unreasonable?

You don't need to be a supervisor to gain project management experience. Your manager could assign you some projects to manage. Maybe you should ask for some small projects to start.
Remember, you're unionized! Stick to what the union requires and don't feel pressured to do anything extra. If things start falling apart, that's on management to deal with, not you.
Have you thought about reaching out to your union rep? They can help you navigate situations like this, especially if the company is trying to change your work arrangements.
I plan to talk to my manager about it first tomorrow, though. He said I could call him today, but I'd rather discuss it in person.
Definitely bring this up with your shop steward. They’re there to help you with these issues and can give you solid advice.
Yeah, I was shocked to find out this was the reason I didn't get the role. My old boss applied too, but he was turned down for not being a strong enough engineer. It's frustrating!
