Should I go for the 7800X3D or spend more on the 9800X3D?

I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my PC. I found a deal where I can snag a 7800X3D for £165 or a 9800X3D for £230 after cashback and discount codes. I've already bought the 9800X3D, but I can cancel that order if needed. I'm upgrading from an AM4 setup and already have 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 4TB Samsung SSD, which I bought before the RAM price surge. I'm only planning to get a new motherboard and CPU now, with a GPU upgrade to a 9070 XT later on. So, is the extra £65 for the 9800X3D worth it, or is the 7800X3D a better deal?

Just head to AliExpress, you should be able to find it there! Not sure if I can drop links here.

Honestly, it comes down to what you'll be using the PC for. If you're not planning on doing anything super demanding or chasing hundreds of FPS, both CPUs will perform similarly. The 7800X3D might be the better value for most users.

If you're okay with spending a bit more, definitely go for the 9800X3D! It has overclocking potential, while the 7800X3D doesn't. Given the overall cost of your build, you should be able to accommodate that extra cash. Good luck with your setup!

I like to think of it this way: you're comparing a Lamborghini to a Ferrari. The 9800X3D is faster, but the 7800X3D is already incredibly fast. Unless you're going for high-end gaming or super demanding applications, you might be better off with the 7800X3D and using the savings for a better GPU or monitor later. Plus, you could use slower RAM since the V-cache helps balance that out.

From a pure value standpoint, the price difference isn’t justified. However, if you don’t mind paying a little extra, I’d personally choose the 9800X3D for the extra performance.
