Hey everyone! I just got a ThinkPad T420 for college and decided to install Linux on it. I chose Debian 12 because it's known for its stability, and I'm using KDE Plasma 5 since that's what I need for my customization (or 'ricing'). I've watched a video tutorial (linked here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9EM1VbbXLY) but I'm struggling with the initial package installation. I would really appreciate any guidance or if someone could create a tutorial specific for Debian 12, or even just a step-by-step for the package install process! Thanks, and sorry if I'm being a total noob!

A lot of the packages from that video might not work right away since you’re on Plasma 5, and most are suited for Plasma 6. I believe Plasma 6 is in Debian testing, so just keep that in mind. If you need Plasma 5-specific instructions, check out the pinned comment for guidance!
Hey, I totally get where you’re coming from! Just so you know, I found a great tutorial for Plasma 5.27 that should help you with that theme you’re after. You can follow it here: https://gitgud.io/wackyideas/aerothemeplasma/. Hope this makes your ricing journey smoother!
I noticed that the tutorial you’re following is for Arch Linux, so it uses pacman instead of the apt package manager, which Debian uses. Some package names might even differ, but don’t worry! The creator did mention those names in the pinned comment of the video; you just need to adapt the commands to apt. It’s not so much you being a noob as not catching that detail.
Ricing your desktop can take a while! It’s totally not just a few clicks; people invest a lot of time learning and customizing. You might find some YouTube videos helpful, but don’t forget they often speed through the process, making it look easier than it is. Start simple and gradually add your own flair to KDE Plasma because it offers tons of customization options, but it does require some patience!
