How Can I Avoid the Browser Step When Clicking Teams Links?

Has anyone else noticed a change recently, possibly due to a Microsoft or Office/Teams update, where clicking a Teams link in Outlook now initially opens in a browser? I want to bypass this browser step entirely because users often don't wait for the app to load and just click away. Is there a way to remove this extra step?

I’m not ready to give up my desktop apps! It feels like we went from desktop operating systems to browser-based ones, and it’s a bit frustrating.

Haha, I totally get that!

This is the new norm. Microsoft is really leaning into a web-first experience, so expect links to keep opening in the browser before they switch to Teams.

Honestly, I'm okay with it long-term. It means fewer apps to manage and install.

I think Microsoft really wants everyone to use the Teams Progressive Web App (PWA) instead of the traditional desktop app. It feels like they're constantly shifting things around.

That makes sense, but we use AVD over iGel clients, and I don’t think the overlay works well in the browser.

Just a heads up, the classic Teams desktop app was retired last year, so if you're using Teams now, you're likely using that web version.

Yeah, this has been happening for a while now. Microsoft seems to be pushing users towards web apps. If you just open Teams directly and navigate to the calendar, you can join meetings without dealing with the browser step.

We're still stuck on hosted exchange, so that workaround isn’t available yet. It's tough!

I heard the desktop version of Teams was fully retired, and we switched to the web app last year. Most users didn’t even notice the change.
