Does Switching to 1080p on a 1440p Display Affect Performance and Clarity?

I have a 9800x3d CPU and a 9070 GPU, and I usually game at 1440p. While it runs smoothly for the most part, I've noticed that my GPU usage hits around 99-100% during competitive games, leading to some stutter issues. I've heard that switching to 1080p might ease the strain on my GPU, but I'm curious about how blurry the image might be and whether this change would put me at a significant disadvantage in competitive play. Is the drop in resolution really that bad?

Yeah, switching to 1080p will definitely make things look a bit blurry on a 1440p panel. A lot of people find 720p more scalable for this kind of situation. If you're concerned about graphics quality for competitive games, staying at 1440p might be your best bet.

So, should I just stick with 1440p then? 720p feels too low for me.

Your GPU hitting 99-100% usage isn't necessarily a bad thing. It could be more about your internet connection or the specific game you're playing. You might want to check your VRR settings too. Why not test it at 1080p and see how it feels? You’ve got nothing to lose by trying it out!
